Mayor: Phil Hardberger was elected Mayor of San Antonio on June 7, 2005. A
veteran public servant, Hardberger was the first Mayor in modern San Antonio
history elected from outside the City Council.

San Antonio Information
San Antonio is the second largest city in Texas, and the seventh largest in
the United States. San Antonio is located in south Texas on the northern side. Known
as the Gateway to the American Southwest, San Antonio has a population of 1.9
million in the metropolitan area.
San Antonio gets it name from the Italian Saint Anthony of
Padua, it is home to Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base, Randolph Air
Force Base and Brooks City-Base. Camp Bullis and Camp Stanely are located just
outside the city limits. South Texas Medical Center is the largest and only medical
research and care provider in South Texas.
The River Walk, The Alamo and The Tejano culture all contribute to make San
Antonio Famous. Sea World San Antonio and Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme parks
also help to bring nearly 20 million tourists per year into the San Antonio area.
San Antonio is continually growing. The population is close to double that
of 35 years ago to an estimated 1.2 million residents in the most recent census.
Downtown The San Antonio Downtown area is more traditionally
urban then other Texas cities and is surrounded by three interstates creating
a rectangular path around the city. Many of the Downtown districts are
a huge drawn to the San Antonio Toursim.The Alamo District, Central Business
District, Convention Center District and Market Square District to name a few.
The a popular tourist destination of San Antonio is the River Walk which weaves
through the downtown area. Many bars, restaurants and shops line the path. The
Arneson River Theater can also be found on the River Walk.
The donwtown area also includes The Majestic Theatre, Hemis Fair Park, Cathedral
of San Fernando and the Spanish Governor's Palace.
The Alamo is Texas's largest tourist attraction. The
Alamo is a former mission -fortress that was built by the Spanish Empire in the
18th century. In 1836 it was the site of The Battle of the Alamo. Left in
ruins, it became a topic of dispute as to what would become of the mission until
later it was designated as a National Historic Landmark.
